Family History Fun For All Ages.

Most of us are attempting to do a Family history to hand down to our kids, grand kids and relatives.
Handing your kids a 40 1b book or hundred pages of text doesn't  inspire the younger generations to read it.
Older relatives and grandchildren may be challendged by computer technology so giving them a CD/DVD may not be the answer.

Digital Scrapbooking is an easy and fun way to pass down the History!

Begin by selecting a very basic Family History topic such as a one page history of your mom or dad. Use your computer to combine a few interesting photos with a little descriptive text. Print the page and put in a binder. Young people will be attracted to the photos. Older children, teenagers and adults will read the captions to.

Here is an exampe of a very basic page with  a few graphics, text and photos.

This page only took about 20 mintues to make. Just by using a very inexpensive kit of graphics from Designs by Krista, ( Pretty things Collection) and printing the page on photo paper from Costco. This entire project only cost me about about $2.00. It's printed on photo paper which is rated for up to 60 years! You now have the start to a wonderful History your family is going to love and cherish.

This page I had a lot of fun with! The bright colors and adorable photographs were easy to work with.
This page only took about an hour to make. I used Designs by Krista "Groovy Girl" kit and Heritage Collector Storybook to make.
Digital scrapbooking has become my new hobby. It's something I can afford, I can express my creativity and its fun! You can't go wrong there.

More examples of  very nice 12 x12 pages you can do in about 45 minutes!

The graphics used on the pages came from designs by krista. Her graphic kits range from $1 to $3 per kit.

Fun project created using Heritage Collector Storybook and a background from Designs by Krista.

To create this fun project all I did was make a basic 8 x 10 page in Heritage Collector Storybook. Took about 20 minutes. I then had the page printed on photo paper for about $1.50.
I found a very inexpensive frame for $3.00. I then added the picture behind the frame.
I plan to give this to my husband for Valentines day.
You can write directly on the glass with a dry erase marker! Comes off very easily as well.

Storytelling with a Purpose.

What's a story?
A story may be communicated in many forms. Such as a cautionary tale, joke, experience, fable, eye witness account, parable, history and more. Stories may be shared via text,  drawings, photos etc.
When a story resonates within our hearts or minds it releases a flood of emotions.
Why should we tell stories? By telling and sharing stories it brings family and friends closer together, and strengthens relationships.

You may ask yourself how is digital scrapbooking telling stories or writing a family history?
When I started digital scrapbooking a few years ago I had no idea I was doing a history.

Let me give you a few tips on how to make your digital scrapbooking experience help you tell your story with a purpose.

#1. Less is more.
Decide in the beginning what you want the focal point of your page to be. Be careful with using lots of graphics. It can be a bit distracting and pull the focus away from the very thing you want to be the main eye catcher.

#2. Use text.
Telling a story just wouldn't be complete without adding some text. In the beginning of my digital scrapbooking experience, I didn't add much text. Now, looking back I wished I would have. I would like to have known more about the event or pictures on the page.

#3.Include dates and names.
A page will be a lot more memorable if you include dates and names of the people in the photograph.

#4. Have fun and be patient with yourself.
Don't expect a masterpiece on your first try.  Just remember to enjoy your family history making  journey!

The page you see below is a very simple page. I wanted my two year old daughter to be the focus. Then I wanted to tell a little story about her stage in life.

Used Heritage Collector Storybook to create this page.

Life would be a dull experience without a good story. Now its your turn to start sharing your stories!
